Magnetism

Magnetic Poles.

The forces between North and South poles
are similar to the forces between electrostatic charges.

Unlike poles attract (pull towards each other),
Like poles repel (push away from each other).

This means that two North poles will repel each other,
two South poles will repel each other,
one North pole and one South pole will attract each other.
The further apart the poles, the weaker the forces between them.

You need to know the shape of the magnetic field
for poles which attract and poles which repel.

The Shape of a Magnetic Field between Attracting Poles

Notice that the lines of magnetic force between the poles are parallel.
